The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
In 8 or more sentences, describe why you think the poem is titled, "The Road Not Taken."
Explain what road you would have taken if you were the speaker.
Your post is due no later than Saturday at 5pm.
I think the poem is called, “The Road Not Taken” because they had to decide between two roads, and they chose the worst road. So when you read the poem it talks about how the rode they took was terrible and didn’t look so good. Though the road that wasn’t taken was beautiful and perfect. This is what the poem says if you read it backwards. If I was the speaker, I would have chosen the newer road to walk along. I would choose it because the older rode appears to be scarier and dirty. So I would feel better walking down the better road. This is why I think the poem is called the road not taken and which rode I would prefer to take.
ReplyDeleteI think this poem is called "The Road Not Taken" because everyone else took the wrong road. Its title is the road not taken because all of the other people missed out on the grassy, not travleled by road. In the last stanza it says,"I shall be telling this with a sigh". That means that he is looking back on the past and is in relief that he chose the right path. If I was this man and had to chose between two roads I might have trouble deciding. But, in the end I would probably end up chosing the road less traveled by.
ReplyDeleteI think that the poem is titled "The Road Not Taken" because the poet chose the road that hadn't been taken by other people before. I think that because, in the poem Robert Frost writes about how one road was worn which means that people had traveled down it, and the other road wasn't, so people didn't travel down there. Robert Frost decided to take the road that people hadn't traveled down. If I were the speaker, I would have taken the road that most people had not taken. I would have taken that road, because sometimes the best way to go is the way that other people don't go. I would have taken the road less traveled by because if I go down that road I probably wouldn't wonder much about the other one, since many other people had already gone there, so it's probably just a normal road, but if I took the other one, I would probably wonder what the road not taken was like, and might have regretted not taking the road not taken. Also, the road less traveled would probably be a prettier sight to see since it wouldn't be old and worn from the people walking there. I would definitely have taken "The Road Not Taken" if I were the speaker.
ReplyDeleteI think the poem is called "The Road Not Taken" because everyone has taken the same road but the narrator wants to be different. The road the narrator took may be harder to walk down but in my opinion it's worth the struggle. Everyone who took the road that was taken took the easy way in life and the narrator took the hard way. If I were the narrator I would have taken the road not taken also. I would want to be original not similar to the others who took the easy road. I don't like to be similar to anybody and that's why I wouldn't take the worn road. The road not taken might also be filled with adventure and I like adventure. I would have taken the road not taken any day.
ReplyDeleteI think the poems called " The Road Not Taken " because he is talking about the road he didn't take . I think I would have taken the road that not a lot of people take because it would be more of an adventure . It would awesome to find something that not a lot of people find. It would be cool to stumble upon things others have not seen because few have been down that path. If I traveled down the road less taken I would experience things many had not because they chose the other path. I would like the challenge of taking the path that seem more difficult and challenging. It seems like the path less traveled had more of the natural surroundings and more to see. If I took the path less traveled I would be sure to learn more.
ReplyDeleteIn the poem The Road Not Taken I think that the poet had decided in the poem to take the road that a lot of people haven’t taken because Robert Frost says in the poem “I took the one less traveled by”. This shows that he took the one less traveled on. I would have taken the road less traveled by like Robert Frost. I would have taken that road because not a huge amount of people have been on it. You can tell because in the poem it quotes “because it was grassy and wanted wear”. On the other road there were foot prints on the grass. That means that there has been a lot of people on this road and I wouldn’t want to take this road. You can tell there have been too many people traveling down here and you always have to take risks or your life will never be fun.
ReplyDeleteI think this poem is called the road not taken because they are talking about a fork in a road. He had to choose 1 road and he didn't think he could come back and travel along the other. He writes about how he went with the one that wasn't traveled as often. He also shows he never regretted his decision. It is called the road not traveled by because he is talking about the two roads not just the one he chose. Frost also talks about the one he didn't chose. He emphasizes this throughout the poem. Robert Frost writes about his decision and his lack of regret for this decision.
ReplyDeleteI think that this poem was titled "The Road Not Taken" because of this very reason. The poet took the right road. As you can see, in the last stanza it clearly states, "I shall be telling this with a sigh." He's telling this with a sigh because he thinks that others should've taken the exact same road as he as took. The other road probably didn't have much to see or explore. He was then probably happy when he took the road that had less footprints than the other and I would have certainly taken the road that was not taken.
ReplyDeleteIn the poem the "road not taken" I think it got the name because the road not taken for him is what every one every one usually takes. I probably would have taken that common road just because if everyone takes it it must be a safer better trail. If the other road like the one the I think the other took I wouldn't chose it unless I'm with a couple of people because you know it seems ify. That's what I think ably Roberts frost poem.
ReplyDeleteI think the poem is titled "The road not to take" because one road is the road that everybody takes and that's the road the is the road you shouldn't take. It seemed like the reader is leaning tords the one that everyone is taking. I think after a while the writer decides to take the other path. I think the poem is saying take your own path and don't try to be like someone else. If I was the writer I would also choose the ones they took because, the writer was more proud about this path and seemed not so happy about the other path.
ReplyDeleteI think the Road not taken is called the Road not taken because the author talks about taking the Road not taken. It says he takes the Road not taken in stanza four.I also think the poem is called the Road not taken because the author could be talking about something entirely different. He could be talking about tough times that he is going through. He could also be talking about a relatives passing or a breakup.Lastly,I think the poem is titled the Road not taken because it could just be a metaphor about something different and not related to the topic. Those reasons show why I think the poem is titled the Road not taken.
ReplyDeleteI think the poem is titled "The Road Not Taken" because its talking about two roads and he could only take one of them. If I was the speaker I would take the road more taken because that's the more trustworthy one. People travel the more taken one for the same reason probably.
ReplyDeleteI think this poem was titled "The road not taken" because hes talking about the road he didn't go on or take.He took the road no one takes the common one.If i did that i would be scared i would have defiantly took the other road the common road.I give the walker props for taking the unusably taken road.
