As we continue to learn about powerful writing I want you to consider what makes a piece of writing so interesting. How will you truly capture your audience's attention? I think it may be helpful if we think about music first. What makes a song so catchy or engaging?
This week I want you to think about one of your favorite (appropriate) songs. Look up the lyrics. (AZ Lyrics is usually a good site to do so). Examine the lyrics.
Are they powerful? Are they catchy? Why do you think so? Is there figurative language in it? (Metaphors, Similes, Personification etc...) What does the song mean?
Write at least 8 sentences that answer some of these questions and ultimately express why this is one of your favorite songs. Your post is due no later than Friday at 5pm. PROOFREAD YOUR WORK!
The song I chose was "Turning Tables" by Adele.I think this is very emotional song. The lyrics in this song show that she tired of being being pushed around, "So I won't let you close enough to hurt me." I find this song powerful because it is about broken hearts and many people have experienced a broken heart. When people hurt from a broken heart they will listen to this song because they feel connected to the song.
ReplyDeleteThe song I have picked is "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons. I have chosen this song because it is very intense. At first it starts like a lullaby as if being sung to a baby but after it gets intense that it feels like you are being yelled at. The lyrics of this song mean a lot to me because radioactive means nuclear and that tells about the Earth being destroyed. When I hear about dust and chemicals I can imagine what it would look like. It would look like nothing just a huge land of dirt with no plants no buildings as if humans never existed. An abundance of people will love this song because it catches your attention it is not a slow song that people will get bored listening to and switch to a different song. It is a song that you can remember the lyrics because they mean something to you. Radioactive makes you think about the Earth and what would happen if we destroyed it. Radioactive is my favorite song.
ReplyDeleteThe song I have chosen is I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz. This song sends a very powerful message. I would say that this song is very powerful. The lyrics are very catchy and have a tune that makes you want to keep singing them over and over again. I think this is powerful because it sends a very serious message that really makes you think. Jason Mraz made these lyrics very catchy because he wanted to get his message across as clear as possible. At the beginning of the song, it is very calm then it becomes louder and louder then goes quiet again. I believe he did that to catch your attention. This song is saying that you should never give up even though times get tough. Also, it is saying that you have come so far, to be right where you are, so don't give up because you have come a long way. Clearly, I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz is a very powerful and meaningful song.
ReplyDeleteFor my song, I chose “Grenade”, by Bruno Mars. I like how this song has a catchy beat and you could get it stuck in your head for days. This happens because it repetitively plays the same tune over and over again. In this song, it has alliteration when Bruno sings” black, black, black and blue”. Doing this also helps with it being catchy. In this song he explains how he would do anything for her, but she wouldn’t do the same for him. He sings about catching a grenade, or even getting run over by a train, but in the end she wouldn’t do the same. I think this song almost explains every relationship, because one person always loves someone more than the other, even if you don’t realize it. This is why I chose “Grenade” as my song choice.

This is my favorite song because it is the only song that makes scence to me because it is about someone with not many friends walking a lonely road with nothing but him and his shadow. The main reason I like this song so much is because I'm like the person in the song because I have many friends. Because I use to not have by friends untill I met my best friend jared. But the friends that I do have always stand by me always. So in a lot of ways I'm very different than the person in the song because I have friends true friends. Like my grandma always says "if you can count your true friends o one hand your all set". This is why I likethis song so much. Besides I have all the friends that I could possablly ever need. Because I'll need like 1 hundred hands to count them all.
ReplyDeleteThe song I have chosen is "Twinkle Twinkle little star". I picked the song because it is catchy and every sentence rhymes. The lyrics are powerful because it really explains how the star shines. A line that supports that is "Like a diamond in the sky". The rhyming lyrics get it stuck in your head like a fly stuck in a spider web. There is also a simile in the song. The simile is "Like a diamond in the sky", this simile explains just how bright and whimsical the little star is. "twinkle Twinkle Little Star is a song that shall never be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteThe song that I chose is ''Girl On Fire'' by Alicia Keys. I have chosen this song because it means a lot to me, and its very powewrful. It was our team song in Field Hokcey, and we would alsways play it before the games. This song pumped me up and got me excited and happy to be on the team. The lyrics are catchy, and I can never stop humming it or singing it in my head. As soon as I hear it blasting on the radio I stop to listen. I remember the times when we would dance to this song in the locker rooms, and have such a good time. This song means a lot to me, and thats why it is my favorite song.
ReplyDeleteThe song I chose was "8 Mile" by Eminem.I picked this song because it is very descriptive,captivating,and moving.This song has a smooth,catchy beat that is enjoyable.The lyrics can very easily get stuck inside of your head.These lyrics have alot of meaning because they tell of the hardships that Eminem faced before his career started.It also talks about his family(mostly his mother)and how they were never there for him when he needed them.This song is called "8 Mile" because Eminem lived near 8 mile road when he was growing up in Detroit,MI.In the song itself he talks about 8 Mile road.This is one of my favorite songs because it is motivating.Whenever I hear this song it inspires me and it will for years to come.
ReplyDeleteThe song I picked is "Temporary Home" by Carrie Underwood. This is a very powerful and emotional song.
ReplyDeleteThe first part of "Temporary Home" goes like this," Little boy 6 years old, a little to used to being alone... When people ask him how he likes this place, he looks up and says with a smile upon him face, this is my temporary home, it's not where I belong." This shows that this young boy has accepted the fact that he my never have a permanent home, or permanent family. The more that this child experiences, the more independent he will be later on.
"Young mom on her own, she needs a little help got no where to go... At night she whispers to her baby girl, someday we'll find a place her in this world." This part is from the second chorus. This mother has no choice but to be strong for her family. She knows deep down in her heart her troubles will finally disappear and she will learn from her mistakes.
In the last part of this song, Underwood states. "Old man hospital bed, the room is filled with people he loves. And he whispers don't cry for me, I'll see you all someday." This part is extremely emotion. This man is surrounded by his loved ones. Letting go of someone who has always been there, is the hardest thing anyone has to do. His life isn't ending, it's just about to begin. He's done all he has to do; his mission is complete. And he's just about to start a new one. Carrie Underwood is trying to say that even though there gone, there still there. A loved one leaving, just means a new guardian angel.
The song that I have chosen is “Beauty and a Beat” by Justin Bieber and Niki Minaj. I chose this song because its beat always makes me want get up and dance. “We gonna party like its 3012 tonight, I wanna show you all the finer things in life, so just forget about the world we young tonight”, this quote signifies that he wants to party all the time with his girl. In this quote he’s trying to remind her that they are young people and that they have a long life to live. It’s a catchy song because it just makes you want to get up and dance. Some figurative language that’s in the song is when he says, “we gonna party like its 3012 tonight.” I mean he’s not really partying in 3012 he would already be dead by then. So when your in a bad mood just download and listen to this song.
ReplyDeleteThe song I have picked is ,Work hard play hard hard by wiz khalifa. I like it but its not my favorite I just choose it for this blog post. I think of it as a motivational song because of the words work hard play hard. When ever I hear it I think of the football highlights I see on the computor. Well there's a beat that goes to the main part of the song that seems like when you make it to the top of the mountain the music would get louder and almost explode. When ever I'm playing a sport I feel like I hear it in the back of my head but I gues it gets annoying. But I think of other music to I like it.

Makes sense when I’m with you” are the first powerful words Hunter sings in the beginning of this cute little love song.He is telling this special girl that he would just fall apart without her and that all his flaws make perfect sense when he is with the girl he is falling head over heels for.He goes to sing about how he wants to make her feel” wanted” and how he wants to call her his own.Wich means he wants to make this girl feel special and he wants her to be is one and only (or girlfriend).I think this whole song is about Hunter trying to date the girl that he probaly thinks about when he’s going to sleep and looks at all day at school.I also think this song is about a poppular girl and not so popular boy who is really insecure on the inside....he sings “Anyone can tell you you’re pretty

But your beauty’s deeper than the makeup”....He is telling her he will think she” beautiful with make up or without make up so he is making her feel special and making her feel “wanted”.Hunter just wants to make this girl feel better then her fairy tales and better then her best dreams and is trying everything in his power to do that but he is doing it through a catchy song that all his fans can sing along too.
A song with a good meaning is "bleeding out" by Imagine Dragons. This song is very powerful. It is about realizing what you did wrong. In one part it goes "Oh you tell me to hold on oh you tell me to hold on but inniconce in gone and what was right is wrong" this meant that the author is realizing that what he did at the time may of been right t the time but now he is realizing that it is not. This song tells an amazing story of trial and error. And realizing your mistakes. It is tragic but amazing. In that first quote it shows that it's not too late to turn back and fix what is wrong. When it says " so I bare my skin and I count my sins and I close my eyes and take it in but I'm bleeding out , I'm bleeding out for you" he means by this he didn't mean bad but the only way he feels he can fix it is to bleed it out for this one person. He feels hopeless. And down and bad for himself. This may be a depressing song but it tells a great story. That is why I thing "bleeding out" by Imagine Dragons in a powerful meaningful song.
ReplyDeleteThe song I chose is "Some nights" by FUN. I picked this song because it was powerful. It's about two people going to war with different armies. When it says, "What do I stand for?", it spoke to me and made me wonder what do "I" stand for? It leaves a question in my head. I think it is powerful because this person has to leave his family to go to war. In the video one of the people die and his girlfriend gets a note saying he has died in battle. Losing someone you hold near would be the worst thing ever.
ReplyDeleteThe song I chose is “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons. This song has a very deep meaning. This song is about a person who realized he has made a mistake, and he doesn't want to let someone down. The chorus is,

He knows he has made some mistakes, but he admits that he is never going to change. It’s Time is a very powerful song, that really catches your attention. The song rhymes , and it is very catchy. It has some alliteration in it, like when it says, “to the top...” and when it says, “bit bigger, but then...” It’s time is a very powerful song that has a very deep meaning.
My favorite song is "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera. In this song she sings about how every person is beautiful no matter what people might say about them. She writes about bullies and the affect they could have on people. She also talks about how the things people say about her don't affect her because she knows that she is beautiful. "I am beautiful no matter what they say
